Couponing!!

So, I've been couponing for a while now, but I've recently become addicted obsessed with saving more money than I spend.  And, not just a few bucks...like TONS more than I spend!  I am going to chronicle my journey here on my blog.  I'll have a tab up top with different coupon info (just in case you wanna know more about how you can save too).  It is so much fun to save money, and with this baby coming I feel like I should save even more!!

I will try to post my monthly totals, so that after a year I can see what I spent, what I saved and tips on how I got my best deals!!

For starters, here is a list of my favorite coupon sites.  Also, please keep in mind that I live in Florida, and each state/store has different couponing rules!

Coupon-Chix
Southern Savers
Coupons.com

Smart Source

Pedigree

Mommy Saves Big

All You

I also frequently visit Publix.com, Winn-Dixie.com, CVS.com and Target.com.

And lastly, let me say that to truly save the most money with the most lasting results...you have to change your mindset and your life style.  No more impulse buying.  You make a budget, you make a list, you collect coupons and you watch for sales.  I don't think you will last long otherwise.

Can't wait to get my April savings uploaded.  I have one more shopping trip this month and then I'll be ready to share.  It's been so exciting to see the savings add up!!

It is Better

Our Pastor said something in his message two Sundays ago that has been on my mind, so I decided to blog about it.  I often read back through old blogs and I am so glad that I keep this record of things going on in our life.  :0)

He was mentioning a Nicholas Sparks' book, and in the book a main character dies.  He said that what the story is trying to convey is that it is better to have experienced great love briefly, than to never experience any love.  The sentence caught me off guard.  My heart was tugged.  This is exactly how I feel about Rowan & Levi. While their deaths were tragic and so overwhelmingly awful, it is better to have been their momma and loved them so entirely - than to never have been pregnant and had them/lost them at all.

I read a lot of blogs, books, forums, etc, about/by/mentioning baby loss moms, and families.  I know more than anyone should ever have to know about the science of getting pregnant, staying pregnant, losing children, reading ultrasounds, deciphering measurements, etc, etc, etc....   I am always taken aback when I come across a woman's story if it leaves me feeling upset.  Before I go any further, let me say, I know that anger is a stage in the grief process - but it's just that - a stage.  And to truly heal (if that is your end goal) you must move on from that 'stage' lest it become a plateau and you remain trapped there forever.  Now, all that being said, this is not meant to be judgmental in tone, nor is it meant to cause pain/hurt, this is merely a path I have walked (more than once) and my opinion(s) based on where I am in the journey - and I'm no where near the finish line.

So, what I was saying...
Some of the stories I read are written in such anger, and disgust.  It breaks my heart.  I know where the anger comes from, I yelled, screamed & cried out to God in anger many times after Rowan died, and again when I was told there was no hope for my Levi.  However, I have come to learn that I was so privileged to be a momma, to be their momma.  I like to think that God knows what He is doing.  It is that belief that gets me out of bed, and helps me stand up and breath all day long.

I guess what I would hate to see is any woman give up on this hope.  Give up and stay put in the angry, dark, places of her grief.  Yes, I get it.  Our children died.  And, no, it most certainly isn't fair.  But, isn't it better to have been with them, to have known of their existence, and to have had them for such a small time...than to have never had them (or worse - never been able to have them)?  I understand that some people who read this may be very new to their loss, and I pray you forgive me if I seem matter-of-fact about things.  But, for me, it is matter-of-fact.  I'm not a cold-hearted woman who has overcome, or 'gotten past' the loss of her children.  I grieve for Rowan & Levi daily.

I have three children, two of them are dead and I'm praying this third one makes it here to stay.  It hurts every day, and I miss them and long to hold them so badly.  When I see other children around the ages they 'should' be I just stare in amazement, and feel a deep longing for my boys.  But, I find peace and mercy in knowing that they are mine (they were mind), and although I cannot be with them now - oh a day is coming...a magnificent day when I'll see them and we will know each other instantly.

I fully believe that God can more closely relate to me, a baby-loss momma, than other momma's.  He too lost a son, He too watched his beloved boy die...  It has brought me such peace to know that even when I feel He's so very far away - He knows and can share in the heartache that I am feeling.

23

How many weeks:  23 weeks.  Everyday I am still so amazed and humbled that this is me, and that I'm still pregnant.  I mean, me....a momma to two sweet angels...and I'm still pregnant.  The magnitude of my gratitude is overwhelming.

How am I feeling: humbled, anxious, over-joyed

Doctor’s Appointment: This a.m.  u/s @ 8:30 followed by cervical exam.  CL was 3.93cm!  Woot!!!

Weight Gain:  6.4 pounds.  So my husband thought this was what I was gaining each week!! Oh dear!!  I certainly hope not - but just to clarify - this is total weight gain thus far!
Maternity Clothes:  I love maternity clothes.  They are so cute and flattering.  I adore empire waists and soft, flowing, dresses.  I also love the way my belly looks.  I don't mean that to sound vain.  I think pregnant women are beautiful.  I love the way the body responds to the different stages of pregnancy.  It's so amazing to watch your body transform to be able to accommodate this small person you are growing.  It's just too incredible for words!

Baby Preparation: Nursery is coming together nicely.  I am participating a community garage sale in 3 weeks, and that will be the last of all our mess that needed to leave the room.  Guess it's time to start thinking about where we are going to put the things that come from a baby shower...  Hmmmmm

Gender: precious baby boy (confirmed on 5 separate u/s - so anything different would totally catch us off guard LOL)

Name:  Noah Reagan McCleskey.  It means Peaceful Little King.  Pretty sweet!

Sleep:  Sleep has never been a problem with any of my pregnancies.  I think it's because of the Prometrium.  :0)

Best moment this week:  Getting to spend time with this baby inside.  I am so glad my husband is such an amazing man.  He works so hard to take care of us, and make sure that I can stay home to keep this womb dweller growing safely.  xoxo babe - love you!!  :0)

Movement: It's such a strange sensation.  I don't know that it can be explained.  A few weeks ago I was searching online to get an idea of what I 'should' be feeling, or whatever.  But really, until you feel it....well, you just have to feel it.  It's so weird, especially at night when I'm trying to get to sleep and I can feel him just bouncing away.  Sometimes it's so abrupt and hard that it makes me jump a little.

Food cravings: I was craving this very specific coleslaw from Bagels Heads last week.  It was sooooo good!  I also could eat every jar of peanut butter that Publix has on the shelves!  And, oddly enough - I would love to have a blue Nehi.  Does anyone remember those??  I may have been the only person in the world who just loved them so much!!

What I miss: My energy.  I do hope to gain some of it back so that I can keep up with this little fella.  I think I get tired easily mainly because I'm not 'allowed' to be as active as I used to be, but I know that some of that just comes with pregnancy.  Again, I'm just so consumed with the ways that I am changing to take care of this little one.  :0)  It's so beautiful, right??

What I am looking forward to: Today.  We had another ultrasound, and I love watching him wiggle and squirm on that screen.  My heart melts every time.  I think I won't stand a chance of keeping in my tears when he is here, wiggling and squirming in my arms.

Milestones:  April 15th...24 weeks...Viability day!!

22 weeks and counting

How many weeks:  22 weeks - and I'm holding my breath

How am I feeling: overwhelmed with the thought that we may actually make it with this one.  Is it too early to start feeling this way?

Doctor’s Appointment:  April 8th @ 23 weeks

Weight Gain:  5lbs
Maternity Clothes:  what else is there??

Baby Preparation: Still purging the nursery.  I have to work slowly b/c I'm still on modified bed rest, so I just try to do a little each day.

Gender: precious baby boy (confirmed on 4 separate u/s - so anything different would totally catch us off guard LOL)

Sleep:  Sleep has never been a problem with any of my pregnancies.  I think it's because of the Prometrium.  :0)

Best moment this week:  being pregnant & really beginning to feel his movements

Movement: It's different than I imagined.  It's like being thumped on the belly...but from the inside.  It's totally a weird a sensation!

Food cravings: Still salty foods, peanut butter especially.

What I miss: not being so sensitive to smells

What I am looking forward to: Today.  Each day I spend time with God just being completely overwhelmed by Him & this amazing little child.

Anticipation

Each day I am overwhelmed with thoughts that we may actually be having this baby.  That he will come to stay with us, alive and healthy.  The thought boggles my mind.  I almost cannot even fathom having a real, live, baby to love and care for...here at my home...all mine.  My son.

I could just cry a million tears for my Rowan & Levi. I miss them so much.  Each ultrasound makes me long for them.  I am hopeful that holding this little one will bring some comfort, and some peace.  I think (and I hope I'm right) that holding him will help me to remember Rowan & Levi.

In cleaning out the nursery I've found so many pictures from the days following each of their deaths.  Each time I just stop and cry.  They were so small, and yet so very perfect.  It was truly the best gift God has given me - this privilege of being their momma.  I hope that we can tell this little boy all about them, and help him to know and love them each as we do.

Feeling this one move and kick is amazing.  I am overwhelmed by the miracle of the entire process - from the conception to the birth.

At my appointment on Friday, the doctor's noticed that the baby had extra fluid in his nuchal fold and we were sent for some additional testing to rule out Down's Syndrome.  The weekend was spent in anticipation - waiting on results.  It was nerve wracking.  My heart was breaking for this one, so small and helpless.  Not in fear that he may come to us with special needs, but concerned that anyone would ever hurt him  - ever.  What joy and mercy washed over us as we got the call yesterday that all tests were negative for DS.  In just those 3 days I learned more about DS than I ever thought I'd need to know.

The process of growing another human is quite impossible.  It is miraculous that any of us are ever born - ever.  We had an echocardiogram done at Friday's appointment (so they could try and rule out Trisomy 18 and/or Trisomy 13).  His little heart was so perfectly formed, and brilliant.  I was awed, and moved to tears at the beauty of God's work.  All I could think, as I lay on the table, was how is it that people don't believe in the Divine?  I'm overwhelmed by God's blessings in my life, our life.  He is far too good to us.

21 weeks - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

How many weeks:  21 weeks - this is flying by for me  :0)

How am I feeling: mostly anxious. I've never been 'this' pregnant, and it is humbling and overwhelming.  Often people ask me if I'm getting excited.  And, honestly, no I'm not.  I mean, I am thrilled to be pregnant, and to be 'this' pregnant puts me over the moon.  But, I constantly feel like I have to keep my excitement boxed up - hoping that I won't be utterly devastated again.  Hoping and praying that although everything could go wrong - nothing will...  It's really a strange set of emotions.

Doctor’s Appointment:  I saw the MFM very early this morning.  Baby's heart rate was 143, and he weighed 14 oz.  My CL was 3.67!!

Weight Gain:  5lbs
Maternity Clothes:  what else is there??

Baby Preparation: Had a garage sale last Saturday to clear out the nursery.  Matt moved all the furniture into place and I just have to will myself to get in there and unpack boxes from Rowan &; Levi.

Gender: precious baby boy (confirmed on 4 separate u/s - so anything different would totally catch us off guard LOL)

Sleep:  Sleep has never been a problem with any of my pregnancies.  I think it's because of the Prometrium.  :0)

Best moment this week:  seeing this little love again today!

Movement: He moves a lot when I'm lying down for bed.  I love those moments & can honestly say I'll miss them when he's here.  It's a safe feeling.

Food cravings: Still salty foods, peanut butter especially.

What I miss: not being so sensitive to smells

What I am looking forward to: Today.  It's been 3 weeks since we have seen him on u/s.  I'm also looking forward to having a 3D u/s done in the weeks to come.  We want to wait until he has some fat on him!!

Milestones:  April 15th...24 weeks...Viability day!!

Answers in a Time of Miscarriage

I have some exciting news to share.

When Rowan first died, I went nuts looking at EVERYTHING that had to do with miscarriage.  Upon on such search, I found Bethany Kerr.  She posted pictures of her sweet babe, Blessing, lost to miscarriage.  We exchanged several e-mails, and then one day Bethany told me she was compiling a book.  A book that would contain a wealth of information about miscarriage, as well as offer hope and healing to baby loss families.  She also asked if I would tell Rowan's story to be included in the book.  So, of course, I did - and I sent her some pictures.

Well, the day has finally arrived and the book is here.  I received mine today.  You can order one here.  You can also learn more about Bethany here.  And, if you are quick you can get a free copy by visiting here site and commenting here.

I will be ordering additional books for my local libraries, our church library and just to have on hand.  You never know when someone may need this book and it's just terrific.  You can read a review by Margaret Delle here.  And let me say, after reading the manuscript and now having practically devoured the book again today - it's amazing and going to change the lives of so many.  I'm so glad that my first baby got to be part of this compilation.  Please do yourself a favor and get Bethany's book.

what keeps you awake?

I have been dreaming about Levi lately.  I was looking over my blog design a few days ago, and I have these countdown thingies at the very bottom that count the years, months, days that Rowan & Levi have been gone.  I was blown away by the big numbers by each name.  It brought me to tears.

Rowan's due date was February 25, 2010....that means it has already been a year since he was to be born.  And, gulp, this August 17th will be 2 years since he left for Heaven.  Two years.  Can that be right?  My sweet little one, my first child.  Gone nearly 2 years...  I was just caught off guard.

And Levi, on February 28th it had been 8 months since he was born and died.  8 months...that's almost a year.  A year.  My little lion gone nearly a year.  My life has been such a blur these last years...rushing by...a blur of heartache, grief, love, life, death...in and out of focus...

I'll be 19 weeks pregnant with this current womb dweller on Friday!  That is nearly 5 months.  I am just caught off guard again.

Anyhow, in my dreams about Levi he is not a baby.  He is a big boy.  He has curly brown hair and looks just like his daddy.  He seems to be a teenager, but not an adult...  It's strange.  In the first dream I didn't know him, but he rushed to me and hugged me.  I woke up in tears.  I thought it was my hormones and fell back asleep.  In the next dream he was there and called me momma, and I instantly knew him.  We just walked through this field and laughed....and then I woke up.  I felt so good.  And then I just missed him so much.  So very much.

I sometimes lay awake at night concerned that I won't think of Levi & Rowan so much once my little one arrives.  Then I wonder if I'll spend too much time thinking of them...what if he looks like them...just like them...will it be too much?  What kind of mother will I be to this boy?  Will I be healed enough from my broken heart to love him like he deserves?
